Louis Erard - Its history

The history of Louis Erard is one of typically Jura-style resilience, marked by a transition from mass production to highly creative niche watchmaking. In 1929, the company was founded by Louis Erard and André Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1931, the first watches bearing the exclusive “Louis Erard” brand name were introduced. Between 1942 and 1980, the brand specialized in casing watches for other houses and producing ultra-thin movements, before being heavily impacted by the quartz crisis. In 1992, following financial difficulties, the headquarters were moved to Le Noirmont in the Franches-Montagnes. The brand was acquired in 2003 by a group of investors led by Alain Spinedi.
