Tudor Prince OysterDate - Its history
The Tudor brand in Geneva in 1926. The history of the Tudor Prince Date collection is closely linked to that of its parent company, Rolex, for which it is intended as a more accessible alternative while maintaining a similar level of manufacturing quality. The line began in 1952 with the launch of the Tudor Oyster Prince. Designed by Hans Wilsdorf (founder of Rolex), it features the waterproof Oyster case and an automatic rotor movement, characteristic of the famous Rolex Perpetual. At the time, Tudor used Rolex components (crown, case) but fitted them with third-party movements (often ETA) to reduce costs. The Prince Date stands out for its date window at 3 o'clock, often topped with a “cyclops” magnifying glass. Today, the Tudor Prince Date is particularly sought after on the second-hand market for its direct historical link to Rolex's iconic designs.
